Tyler Smith Tyler has been a resident of Colorado since 1977. He lives near Denver, is married and has two sons. His first produced play, The Visitation, premiered at Denvers Changing Scene theater in 1995; since then he has had five more premieres in Denver: Perfect Pitch (1997), Be My Guest (1998), Hod (1999), Hang Time (2000), and Another Song (2001). In addition, several of his pieces that he has developed with the assistance of criticism from his fellow Write Angle members have been read publicly. He has been a member of Write Angle since 1996. Be My Guest (1998): Two lonely men spend New Years Eve deconstructing everyone from Jane Fonda to William Jennings Bryant to Dick Clark. Hod (1999): Friends, family, and foe relive the life of an ex-boxer in narratives that overlap and interweave -- as he lies inert on a barroom floor. Hang Time (2000): Fanatical talk show listener spends his time developing finely tuned statements on sports, to the exclusion of his already strained relationship with his girlfriend. Meanwhile, talk show host and producer trade insults and views on the meaning of talk radio. Another Song (2001):A musician struggles to decide if he should follow an aspiring singer with whom he has collaborated on the road while his mother reminds him of the disappointments suffered by his musician father. History of Last Night (2002): A man attempts to piece together the memories of the previous drink-filled evening with the woman he loves - who has left under mysterious circumstances. One-act plays: The Visitation (produced, 1995): A middle-aged man haunted by the loss of his teenage love to suicide struggles through memory to find the meaning of her death. One Summer Night (public reading, 1997): Two teenagers spy on one another, then find that language is the common path to lead them out of loneliness. Full-length plays: Candy Store (1995): A man kidnaps a stripper with whom he is obsessed, hoping to force a relationship to develop. He instead finds himself held captive by her powerful story. Dont Have to Go (public reading, 1996): Father and son estranged for many years struggle to come to terms when the son brings his wife-to-be home for a visit. Brothers in Arms (public reading, 1997): Patrons of a tavern in an economically depressed city find their moral views challenged when one of them accidentally views an act of police brutality. Mansion of Glass (2000): A blend of fact and imagination, Mansion of Glass deals with the early political rise of Illinois Black Panther Party chairman Fred Hampton and his execution at the hands of the FBI and the Chicago Police Department on December 4, 1969.
